MAP YOUR FAMILY
using a Genogram

What is a genogram?
A genogram is a visual map of a family system across multiple generations.
Why create a genogram?
A genogram shows relationships, roles, and key patterns (e.g., conflict, closeness, health, beliefs). It goes beyond a family tree by highlighting emotional and relational dynamics. Creating one helps people see recurring patterns, understand how family history shapes present behavior, and identify areas for growth, healing, and more intentional relationships.
Who creates a genogram?
Folks who are working with a therapist/counselor/psychologist/social worker are sometimes asked to create a genogram. Since this visual map conveys a lot of information in one diagram, it is a powerful tool for a therapeutic setting.
Have a password?
If your therapist/counselor/social worker has provided you with a password, click on Access the Genogram Builder below & insert the password you were provided. Please note, the builder only works on a computer. If you are on mobile, switch to a computer before proceeding. Once on the builder page, instructions are provided to help you get started.
